Sometimes it can feel as if the challenges life throws at you are overwhelming and they don’t seem to make sense. Perhaps life’s feeling like it’s just too difficult to manage without someone to support you.
Person-centred counselling is a therapeutic approach developed by Carl Rogers that focuses on the individual's inherent capacity for growth. Instead of giving advice, the therapist creates a supportive, non-judgmental environment that supports clients to explore their own feelings and enables them to find their own solutions to problems.
The therapist supports the client to bring whatever is relevant for them on that day. The therapist acknowledges that the client is the expert on their own life. Through listening, reflection and psycho-education they can be supported to reflect on and explore their feelings, values and beliefs and where they originated from in a safe and nurturing space. With this self-awareness, the therapist will support the client to consider how to navigate any relevant changes or to consider how to make decisions about their future direction.
Therapy can be effective for a variety of issues, including relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, self esteem, bereavement, challenging life transitions and many other issues.
